Kinship care is care provided by relatives or a member of a child’s social network when a child is unable to live with their parents. Kinship care arrangments can be either formal or informal.

What are Kinship Care Services?

Kinship care Services provide support to both formal and informal kinship carers through a range of services. These include:

Advice & information service
Providing information and advice about community resources that can assist families and their support networks. This service can be accessed by children and young people in kinship care, kinship carers, extended family members and professionals.

Support groups
Coordination kinship carer groups to promote information sharing, training and support for carers. All kinship carers are invited to join these groups.

Community Development
Enhancing support for children in kinship care and their carers by providing information about kinship care throughout the community.

Kinship family service
Providing a timely and flexible response to kinship families, or kinship family members, which focuses on supporting them to deal with a current issue effecting family functioning.

Who can use the service?

Kinship carers living in the Eastern Hume Region (including the local government area’s of Indigo, Towong, Mansfield, Alpine, Benalla, Wodonga and Wangaratta).

Is there a cost involved?

No, the service is free of charge.
