- Focus on the strengths and resources of parents
- Enable an understanding of the effects of conflict and violence in their lives
- Provide alternative ways of communicating to promote positive co-parenting
- Both the child and parents issues are interlinked
Structure
- Mixed gender
- Include residential and non-residential parents
- 3 hours duration
- Intensive program runs for 6 weeks
- 2 concurrent groups – 1x night, 1x day
- Content consist of both educational and therapeutic
- 2 facilitators per group
- It has a pre test and a post test to assess progress and relevance
- Certificate of completion
Kids in Conflict Program
(3hr information/education seminar)
- Delivered every month
- The emphasis is on increasing parents’ understanding to the negative impact of parental conflict on children
- Assist parents to minimise their children’s exposure to parental conflict
- Improve parents understanding in assisting them to facilitate their children’s adjusting to separation and divorce
- Assist parents to focus on their children’s experiences
Children’s Group (Jigsaw)
- 5 – week program
- Opportunity for children to express their feelings and needs through group work
- Acknowledge, normalise and integrate their experiences
- Explore through therapeutic play and themes that children’s understanding of loss, change and readjustment
- Support from own peers through interaction and stories
- Followed up by bi-monthly support group
